Activities

Bicycles, Barracks & Bandoliers features a number of learning resources that promote the investigation of the history of policing from different perspectives. These learning activities are written for a general audience but are designed with reference to the KS3/4 CCEA curriculum. These suggested activities include cross curricular learning and explore aspects of policing though multiple media and approaches that reflect aspects of the English, Art and Design, History and Citizenship curricula.

Activity set 1: Discover former RIC barracks in your local area

A group of activities that encourage pupils to use online resources such as the 1911 census to research RIC stations in the local area. The activities enable pupils to develop a better understanding of life in the RIC and respond to their knowledge with creative writing.

Activity set 2: Evaluate and design anti hate crime posters

A group of learning resources that explore the use of imagery and design to combat racist and racist hate crime. Pupils are encouraged to evaluate anti racist posters, anti hate crime posters and explore the causes and effects of racism. Pupils use this knowledge to design their own anti racist hate crime poster.

Activity set 3: The role of women in the police force
